I am excited after so many years to be able to share “My Turkey “with all of you this Spring Break! During the past years I have been exploring off the beaten path sites around Izmir and the along the Aegean Coast.
I have discovered two phenomenal wineries, one with wine that has grapes that have DNA that date to the 8th century BC. Greeks Ionians inhabited this area during ancient times. One of my favorite new sites is Teos one of the twelve cities which formed the Greek Ionian League formed in the 7thcen. BC. Teos is an archeological site that is in the early stages of excavation. The site has over 200 ancient Olive Trees. Many of the ancient trees were planted by the Ionian Greeks. The trees still produce olives.
I am planning a visit to another large archeological site near Ephesus. The site is Magnesia. It is one of the relatively unknown archaeological sites, but the ongoing excavations bring new discoveries every year. A 40,000-seat marble stadium that was bigger than the famous theatre at Ephesus, was only discovered in 2012. It was completely submerged underground for thousands of years. The site is prenominal!!! Absolute “must see” exploration of a Greco Roman site.
Of course, the group will visit Ephesus, hopefully with Dr. Cengiz Itchen the former Chief Archeologist. Since most of you were unable to visit Turkey for 8 years, you will not believe the progress of the excavation at Ephesus. I am planning a visit to the Izmir Agora, which has been extensively excavated in recent years.
I am planning a lunch by the seaside in Urla south of Izmir, lunch at a winery near Ephesus course you will have time for shopping.
I am very excited to share all these newly discovered sites and Ephesus with all of you. Please contact me if you are interested in joining me. I will be traveling in October. The brochure will be posted on the website in early November. www.meyertravelgroup.com I am limiting this tour to 20 people. Please contact me if you are interested at the options above. Cost will be in the same price range of past Spring Break Tours.
